Camzify Connector

The Camzify Connector is a lightweight software application installed on a PC or server on the same local network as your cameras. It relays RTSP streams, and the pan, tilt and zoom controls that go with them, securely to the Camzify cloud, without requiring port forwarding, static IP addresses, or firewall changes. It runs on Windows, macOS or Linux.

Why you need it

Most IP cameras are installed on local networks behind NAT routers. They are not directly accessible from the internet, which is good for security, but makes cloud connectivity a challenge. The Connector solves this by establishing an outbound connection from inside the network, tunnelling the camera feeds securely to Camzify.

How it works

  1. Install the Connector on any PC/server on the camera network.
  2. Enter the RTSP URLs of your local cameras into the Connector.
  3. The Connector authenticates with the Camzify cloud and begins relaying the video streams, along with PTZ control for cameras that support it.
  4. Cameras appear in the Camzify dashboard as if they were cloud-connected.

System requirements

  • • Windows, macOS, or Linux
  • • Network access to the cameras (same LAN or VLAN)
  • • Outbound internet access (HTTPS, no inbound ports required)
  • • 2-4 Mbps upload bandwidth per camera (standard resolution)

Once cameras are connected via the Connector, they are fully compatible with all Camzify features including virtual patrolling, AI detection, and the platform dashboard. See the RTSP setup guide for detailed connection instructions.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No. The Connector is for cameras that are not reachable from the internet on their own. An RTSP stream published to a public address connects directly, and so does an HTTPS stream, whether it is HLS or WebRTC. If your cameras sit behind a router or firewall with no public route, the Connector is what bridges them.

Windows, macOS or Linux. It installs on any machine that can see the cameras on the local network and reach the internet at the same time, often an existing office PC or a small server already on site, rather than new hardware.

Yes. For a camera on a local network, the Connector carries pan, tilt and zoom control alongside the video, so the camera can be moved from Camzify rather than only watched.

Neither. It makes an outbound connection from inside your network to Camzify, which is the same direction as ordinary web traffic. Nothing inbound is opened, no firewall rule is added, and the cameras are never exposed to the internet.
